Bioenergetics Analysis

Psychotherapy in the most comprehensive sense is the complete use of any procedure or technique that has a soothing or curative effect upon any emotional, mental or behavioral disorder.

The bioenergetic psychotherapy is different from traditional therapy in many ways. It is a psychodynamic psychotherapy in which work is combined with the body and mind in order to reduce the muscle tension and psychological problems.

Bioenergetic Analysis was developed by the Wilhelm Reich, Alexander Lowen and others and was practiced at International Institute of Bioenergetic Analysis.

Bioenergetic analysis analyzes several restricted human characters and each is “read” as posture and form of the individual’s body; schizoid, masochistic, oral, rigid, egotistic and psychopathic. The bioenergetic analysis involves a number of “stress positions” which are designed to endorse the confrontation of an individual with the structure and reserved emotions.

The most common bioenergetic position is to stand upright with knees slightly bent, giving all the weight from the centre to outside of the feet, keeping the belly in the relaxed position; and then pushing the fists into the middle of the back with head up and chin slightly pushed forward. Bioenergetic analysis is practiced either as an individual or as a group analysis.

In group psychotherapy, exercises such as kicking a mattress by lying on its back and yelling or beating a pile of mattresses with a fists or a tennis racquet are the most common application of bioenergetics. This method is based on endorsing bodily emotional discharge. The principle is based on the fact that when a person starts breathing deeply, then the person begin to feel deeply and with the deep feeling comes a renaissance of reserved feelings and lost memories, which is required to be realized on both the feelings and the reflective level through verbal processing, catharsis and physical grounding of the person in emotional reality.

Bioenergetic analysis is a therapy that not only listens to what one has to say but also what one’s body has to say without uttering a word. It’s a kind of analysis in which cognitive work is combined with bodywork and helps the body to reduce the depression and anxiety and enhance the wellness, health in mind, body and spirit.
